City of Monroe (NC) is Hiring a Building Inspector Near Monroe, WA

Perform inspections and limited plan review for structural, non-structural and fire life safety components of commercial and residential buildings to ensure compliance with State adopted Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Accessibility, Energy and other related Codes, including local and State amendments.
 
Maintain a variety of records and reports including building, fire, public works and special inspection reports and plan review comments. Help customers with code questions, investigates possible work without permits and conduct pre-construction and pre-development meetings as needed. Position open until filled. First review will be February 9, 2024.
  • Inspect structures for building, accessibility, plumbing and mechanical installations for conformance with the appropriate codes, regulations and plans/specifications.
  • Perform limited plan review of structural, non-structural and fire life safety components of commercial and residential buildings to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and locally adopted and amended codes.
  • Evaluate buildings and other structures for structural, electrical and general life safety issues during disasters and emergencies. Advises owners and /or occupants of status and assist with evacuation of occupants and owners as required.
  • Monitor construction projects to detect conditions which may require changes in the construction sequence; inform builders of code violations and necessary actions for compliance.
  • Read and interpret architectural drawings, site plans, topographic maps, and structural drawings and calculations.
  • Conduct pre-construction, pre-development and other meetings as needed.
  • Ability to work well independently and with others; stay on task and follow direction.
  • Answer questions by telephone, email, at the counter, or in the field regarding applicable code requirements.
  • Coordinate responses with multiple departments to ensure the applicant receives accurate information.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints concerning possible code violations and assist code enforcement with concerns related to new and existing structures.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Two years experience as a building inspector
  • High school diploma or G.E.D., 
  • Must possess an ICC Residential or Commercial Building Inspector Certification within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Ability to drive a city vehicle; have a good driving record and current and valid Washington State driver’s license.
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
